Shortlisting the Watches I Like
The WatchMaestro team asked me to pick 2 of my favorite watches out of a million-dollar watch collection they created. Being a watch enthusiast, it was hard, extremely hard for me to select the right ones. So, before I could pick out my absolute favorite ones, I had to go through some of the watches I liked over the other ones. While I pick those out, I would love to share why I have the said opinion about the selected watches. I wanted to start off with the mid-range watches and then take it slowly toward the top-tier ones. Here’s a list of watches I shortlisted in the video.
GMT Master II
In the mid-range, my first pick had to be the GMT Master II. Being a frequent traveler, I have always loved the idea of being able to track multiple time zones right from your wrist. Although my all-time favorite GMT Master model is the Rootbeer Two Tone, I also like the Pepsi color scheme.
Since the GMT Master II, especially the Rolex Pepsi, is already very popular and I usually like to stand out, this is not something I would personally be looking to add to my collection.
Submariner Date
Anyone getting started with a luxury watch collection often goes towards the Submariner. The watch looks simple and clean. It has a timeless design that has been perfected by the Swiss watch brand over the years. But again, since this is a popular model and I am into rather unpopular things, I would pass on this one and would not add this to my collection. After all, I get only 2 picks here, so I have to be very wise with my picks.
Breitling Premier B25 Datora
I strongly believe that this Breitling is one of the most underrated watches out there. It really does stand out with the Salmon dial. The watch is all about practical complications as it shows the date, day and month. Not just that, but it also gets a Moonphase indicator and a chronograph function. Even though this watch is actually so amazing, I would not add this one to my collection since I already own a Breitling at the moment.
Cartier Santos – My First Pick
Now, the Cartier Santos is something that I would gladly add to my collection. It features a square face with Roman numerals, which looks very appealing to me. It comes with both a steel bracelet and a leather strap. Hence, it can be worn both formally and casually. I also believe that out of all the watches I selected, this one brings the most bang for your buck. Lastly, the Cartier Santos with this Blue dial is not as common to see and I love to wear uncommon things.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph
Just like the Breitling, this Vacheron Constantin is also a very underrated watch. This one features a Blue Chronograph dial, which looks absolutely stunning. Even though I appreciate the craftsmanship that went behind creating this masterpiece, I would not add this to my collection. This one would go much better with a formal outfit and I don’t think it has the versatility that I need.
RM 035 Black Toro
A beautiful piece of art – this watch is something that is going to turn a lot of heads. This is something that will allow you to stand out even at high-level parties because there are only 50 of these in the world. No matter how special the watch is, I would still not add this Richard Mille watch to my collection. I prefer having something that has a bit more versatility to it.
GMT Master II SARU
The SARU is an off-catalog model that will instantly get people’s attention towards your wrist. With diamonds on the dial and the factory-set Sapphire and Ruby bezel, this watch screams quite loud. I do like watches that stand out but not as loud as this one. So, once again, this one is something I would not be looking to add to my collection.
AP Skeleton – My Second Pick
I have always loved and appreciated AP watches because of their design and overall craftsmanship. I have even owned one in the past and since I no longer have it in my possession, I would love to go out and get another AP. And this time, I would love to go a little bit more crazy and get myself a skeleton dial AP. I love how this one allows you to see the movement and all the intricate parts in it.
So yes, out of all these watches, my two favorite picks would be the Cartier Santos and the AP Royal Oak Skeleton.
