Patek Philippe Cubitus: Overview & Key Specifications

Patek Philippe Cubitus watches are very different from the round cases we usually see. The president of the company, Thierry Stern, wanted a watch that looked strong but felt comfortable and thin on the wrist. The design mixes three shapes: a square, a circle, and an octagon. So, the result is a bezel that looks flat but catches light with vertical satin-brushed finishes and polished edges.

In addition, the dial is very special because it uses a horizontal relief embossing pattern, and this looks like the garage door style of the Patek Philippe Nautilus. The hands and baton markers are white or rose gold and filled with white luminescent coating so you can read the time in the dark.

Patek Philippe Cubitus Overview

Model Description and Naming

The name “Cubitus” comes from the Latin word for elbow. It refers to the wrist area where the watch sits. It also sounds like “cuboid,” which matches the geometric case. People were surprised when the company launched this model in October 2024. The case has a two-part construction. Although the watch looks big, it is very slim. The entry-level models are only 8.3mm thick, and the complicated platinum flagship is 9.6mm. The important thing is that this thin profile is possible because of the advanced self-winding movements inside.

Technical Specifications

All Patek Philippe Cubitus watches have some core features:

Main Variants

There are a few main families within the Cubitus category:

The movements are modern, and the time-only models use the Calibre 26-330 S C, which is famous for its hacking seconds. The 5822P uses the Calibre 240 PS CI J LU, which is an ultra-thin movement with a micro-rotor.

Patek Philippe Cubitus Prices: Retail vs Secondary Market

Buying a Patek Philippe Cubitus at the official boutique is very difficult. The company makes fewer than 70,000 watches a year, and because the Cubitus is the “hot new thing,” authorized dealers have long waiting lists. Therefore, this shortage forces impatient buyers to go to the secondary market, where prices are higher.

Patek Philippe Cubitus Retail vs Secondary Market prices

Secondary Market Price Overview

The price in the open market depends on the specific reference and the full-set status. A full set means the Cubitus watch comes with the original box and the Certificate of Origin. The stainless steel Green Dial, such as 5821/1A, has the highest demand compared to its supply. So, you will pay a massive premium, which is sometimes double the retail price. In addition, most Cubitus watches sold now are “unworn” or “2024/2025” models because the watch is so new. Prices increased immediately after the October 2024 launch, and by mid-2025, they stabilized but remained high. The platinum reference sees huge markups because it is a “Grand Complication” tier watch.

Patek Philippe Cubitus as an Investment

When we analyze the historical data, we see that Patek Philippe Cubitus is a good investment. Similar to the Nautilus, which is a sports watch, the Cubitus watch also retains value very well. Prices went higher upon the release of this model, and although they have corrected slightly, the prices are still high. So much so that the value retention factors are strong because it is a core collection and not a limited edition. Therefore, we can say that Cubitus is the new face of the brand. However, as a new model, the market is still deciding exactly where the price settles, but compared to other brands, a Patek Philippe sports watch is a blue-chip asset.

Authenticity, Certification & Warranty

Patek Philippe Cubitus Authenticity, Certification, Warranty

You must ensure the Patek Philippe Cubitus is real when buying one because there are so many superclones on the market. So, the first thing to do is to look for the PP seal on the movement bridges. Remember, this quality mark is stricter than the old Geneva Seal because it covers the finishing, accuracy, and materials. Besides, a real Cubitus watch has perfect finishing. So, check the vertical satin-brushing on the bezel and see whether it is perfectly straight. The date numbers in the double aperture, such as on the 5288P, must align perfectly.

Moreover, the Certificate of Origin is the most important document because it lists the serial number and the movement number. If you are buying a used watch, make sure these numbers match the engravings on the watch. Patek Philippe offers a 2-year warranty for new watches, and the company promises to service any watch it has ever made, forever. So, this lifetime service commitment is rare in the industry. If you buy a Cubitus watch from Watch Maestro, we will give you a limited one-year warranty for your peace of mind.

FAQs About the Patek Philippe Cubitus

What is the size of the Patek Philippe Cubitus?

The main models, such as the reference 5821 and 5822, are 45mm. However, this is measured diagonally from 10 o’clock to 4 o’clock. It wears like a 42mm round watch on the wrist. The newer 7128 reference is 40mm, which is better for smaller wrists.

Is the Cubitus waterproof?

It has a water resistance of 30 meters, which means it is “splash proof.” You can wash your hands or walk in the rain, but you must not swim with this watch.

Does the Cubitus replace the Nautilus?

No. The Nautilus, such as the reference 5811 and others, still exists. The Cubitus is a separate category of watches designed to offer a different “square look,” and it sits alongside the Aquanaut and Nautilus.

Why is the Platinum model strap different?

The Platinum 5822P comes on a composite strap to make it sportier and lighter. Platinum is a very heavy metal, and a full platinum bracelet would make the watch extremely heavy on the wrist.

How do I get a Cubitus at retail price?

You usually need a purchase history with an authorized dealer, which means you have bought other watches from the dealer before. So, it is very difficult for a first-time buyer to get a Cubitus immediately.
