Jacob & Co Caviar Tourbillon: Spotlight of the Super Bowl
Since it was his first time in the commentary booth at the Super Bowl, Tom Brady wanted to make it special by wearing something as flashy as the Jacob & Co Caviar Tourbillon. Available in a variety of options, Tom picked the one covered with Yellow Sapphire stones. The watch features a 47mm case which is completely covered with 224 baguette-cut Sapphire stones. The crown alone features 16 more gemstones and there is even one large rose-cut gem on the edge of the crown.
With a watch like this, Jacob & Co surely went big on gemstones. It even features 130 baguette-cut gems on the dial. The dial does get a nice touch thanks to the tourbillon. The hands are in contrasting blue color making it easier to read time. Speaking of reading time, the watch does not get any index markers, but you don’t really wear a piece like this to look at the time now do you?
What’s on the inside?
Even though this whole article can just be about the yellow sapphires and the gemstones, we should shift our focus toward the movement powering this beautiful timepiece. The watch draws its power from the JCAA43 Caliber that offers a power reserve of 72 hours. With about 216 components in it, the movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph. The self-winding movement also features a one-minute flying tourbillon which is visible through the dial. If you turn the watch around, even the movement is visible thanks to the open caseback.
As the whole watch is covered in gemstones, Jacob just couldn’t leave the movement as it is. So, they even added a whopping 338 brilliant-cut diamonds inside the movement as well. These diamonds are placed on the bridges and the openworked rotor. All of these are visible through the open caseback of the watch.
