New Additions to AP Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked
Audemars Piguet just surprised everyone by adding new 41mm variants of its already popular and relatively hard-to-get Openworked collection. The three new variants that are added to the collection are crafted out of Stainless Steel, 18kt Yellow Gold, and Black Ceramic. Backed by the Calibre 3132 movement, these watches get nice contrasting dials that make all the difference. Here are more details on each of the new variants.
Stainless Steel – Ref. 15407ST.OO.1220ST.02
The AP Royal Oak 15407ST has already been a part of the collection. But what makes the new release different is the all-new Pink gold-toned dial. The skeleton dial really manages to stand out with this new colorway. It just looks aesthetically pleasing and serves as a great backdrop to a Stainless Steel watch. AP has gone the extra mile by using the same color tone on the screws used on the octagonal bezel, giving it a seamless look.
The already existing 15407ST keeps things simple with a black Openworked dial. But the new Pink gold-toned dial helps lift up the Double Balance Wheel Openworked watch even further. The retail price for this one has been set at AED 270,000.
Yellow Gold – Ref. 15407BA.OO.1220BA.01
The Yellow Gold variant sits more alongside the existing 15407OR Rose Gold variant as this one features the same black dial. Honestly, the combination of black and yellow gold really goes quite well. The Openworked dial does get yellow gold touches here and there keeping things classy and elegant.
I have always preferred Rose Gold over Yellow Gold, so this is not for people like me. But if you are someone who would pick a Yellow Gold watch, now you can get a Yellow Gold AP Royal Oak with a Double Balance Wheel Openworked case. As per the AP website, this one will retail for around AED 358,000.
Black Ceramic – Ref. 15416CE.OO.1225CE.02
Now, this one is my favorite among the new collection. I have always loved the Black Ceramic AP Royal Oak collection. In fact, my holy grail watch is the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 26585CE. Hence, this one caught my attention as soon as I looked at the new releases. I believe the Pink gold-toned dial does better on the Black Ceramic case than the Stainless Steel one. Again, you get the matching screws, which further helps the watch stand out.
To make things even more interesting, AP has decided to make this one a limited edition. Limited to just 150 pieces in the world, this one will command a higher premium over its retail price of around AED 358,000.
When can you expect to get one?
Fell in love with one of the new models? Unfortunately, just like every other AP watch you either need a strong profile with your AD or you need to wait in the queue for quite sometime before you get your turn. But is there a shortcut to getting one? Yes, absolutely. These new variants will soon start hitting the secondary market and you can take the help of a trusted pre-owned luxury watch dealer like WatchMaestro to help you source one of these watches.
It is worth mentioning that the Yellow Gold and Stainless Steel models should be more accessible soon while of course commanding a premium over their sticker prices. The Black Ceramic on the other hand will be extremely hard to get hold of especially considering that it is a limited edition model.
